We at ReAlign believe in whole plan medicine, which is why our oils are “full spectrum” or containing all of the constituents of the plant. Plants contain hundreds of active chemicals that all work together to increase healing effect, many of which are terpenes. In Industrial Hemp medicine it is referred to as the “entourage effect.”

The Entourage effect was a term created by Ethan Russo, M.D., a neurologist who has long studied cannabis compounds and their role in the body. In his study “Taming THC: potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects,” he speaks about how all the compounds found in hemp influence each other’s mechanisms. Each of the compounds in the hemp plant make the others more effective if used together as an entourage.

In Hemp there are 140 different plant compounds called terpenes. Terpenes play an incredibly important role to Hemp by providing the plant with natural protection from bacteria and fungus, insects and other environmental stresses. These plant compounds then have a very similar effect inside the human body. Terepes are responsbile for the smell of plants, like lavender or citronella.

The terpene myrcene found in Hemp, for example, can reduce resistance in the blood-brain barrier, enabling easier passage of beneficial chemicals into the brain. Pinene, another terpene, helps counteract reduced cognition and memory issues. A combination of terpenes pinene, myrcene, and caryophyllene help unravel anxiety. Mixing terpenes linalool and limonene with the cannabinoid CBG shows promise in the treatment of MRSA. Linalool and limonene combined with CBD is being examined as an anti-acne treatment.

These are just a few examples of the 140 different terpenes found in the Hemp plant. You can imagine what health benefits you may receive when ingesting all 140 terpenes.

Terpenes are one of the very reasons we believe in and practice whole plant medicine at ReAlign.

You can find all Hemp terpenes in both our Full-Spectrum oils and our Broadband, which is the full spectrum minus THC.
