Not so long ago, one of the greatest health discoveries of our time occurred, and many of us didn’t even know about it. In the 1950’s a researcher and doctor in Israel made a startling discovery, that discovery soon led to one of the most important systems within our body, the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). This system is a system of chemical communicators throughout the body, found to be very abundant in the brain, gut, central nervous system and heart. This system communicates with each of the main areas of the body. This system is on constant alert for any changes, abnormalities, or problems within any area of the body. If a problem is detected, the ECS can use its system of receptors to communicate a chemical response to fix the problem. The chemical response happens with endocannabinoids, the little chemical communicators the body creates and uses to fix problems and restore balance in the body. These internal cannabinoids are created by the body much like your body creates hormones and neurotransmitters.
Now let’s look at Autism and Spectrum Disorders…
Autism and Spectrum Disorders occur when there has been an insult or some type of injury sustained to the Central Nervous System (CNS). This damage occurring somewhere between en vitro and within the first 18 months of life. One study by the University of North Carolina School of Medicine’s Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, Developing Neurotransmitter Systems as Targets for Pesticide and Drug Exposure is exploring the impacts of prenatal exposure to pesticides to neurons and receptors in the brain and how that may lead to spectrum disorders. (1) Another study by John Hopkins University found inflammation as a main factor in the development of autistic disorders. Inflammation is the natural response to an injury or insult. The National Children’s Study is investigating the possibility of inflammation during pregnancy as a root cause of Autism. (2) There have been and continue to be many study’s looking at the possible causes, but at the root of the problem, we see CNS damage and with that damage severe inflammation. That inflammation is why children on the spectrum are so sensitive to foods and chemicals and even drugs, because their nerves are already so highly inflamed.
Although every child and individual is vastly different, we see a commonality in behavior and symptoms of children on the spectrum which is why we can place them along a spectrum. These symptoms include language impairment and delay, seizures, anxiety, sleep disturbance, aggression towards others or themselves, OCD or repetitive type behaviors sensory processing issues, social inaptness and restricted range of interest. Often parents say, if I could just get my Autistic child to calm down, or to focus, we could overcome so much more. From a natural healing perspective we need to reduce inflammation and also heal the damage done to the CNS. This is where a phytochemical found in the Industrial Hemp Plant can help.
Cannibidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive phytochemcical found in the Industrial Hemp plant. It is one of over 100 active plant chemicals found within Industrial Hemp. Other chemicals found within hemp like Terpens, which give plants their smell, all have a medicinal benefit to the human body. All these plant chemicals work together in the human body by interacting directly with the ECS system. CBD has been found to be especially effective in reducing and healing many of the issues seen in Autism and Spectrum disorders because of its direct interaction with our own ECS.
There have been many study’s on the use of CBD in Austism. In one study they found conditions in Autistic children improved 80% with the use of a high concentration of CBD. (3) Behavioral outbreaks were much improved or very much improved in 61% of children. The anxiety and communication problems were much or very much improved in 39% and 47% respectively. Disruptive behaviors, were improved by 29%. In another study in Spain they found CBD to have a normailizing and stabilizing effect on children with no signs of sedation.
“Some individuals acquired skills they had either lost or never had, such as getting dressed on their own, interacting with the tablet, listening to music and paying attention to their surroundings when out walking. They were less inclined to reject physical contact and may even give hugs, possibly for the first time in years. Their facial expressions improved and they can hold eye contact.”
The study found that many children with ASD seem to be unhappy and to be in constant pain or suffering. However, once they start treatment with CBD this situation appeared to change — or at least improve. Some smile or even laugh! (4)
Studies continue with CBD and Autism. Both the University of San Diego and New York University are looking at studying CBD and Autism. The results thus far have been promising.
Industrial Hemp and CBD found within hemp, has been shown to provide relief and improvement in many of the symptoms seen in Autism, ASD and Spectrum Disorders including reducing inflammation, calming anxiety, balancing gastrointestinal issues, correcting sleep disturbances, helping individuals become more focused and more engaged, all while healing cells on a deeper level.
We at ReAlign are dedicated to the education in the potential of hemp herbal medicine in many disorders and diseases including Autism, ASD and any of the Spectrum Disorders. We have created a pure, organic, third party tested medicinal oil. All of our hemp batches come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Our oil is highly potent and contains all the healing cannabinoids found within the Industrial Hemp Plant. We combine this with the hemp plant’s own oil, hemp oil, which is one of the most nutritious healing super foods on the planet. By combining these two, we have created a powerful synergistic effect which results in a powerful healing oil.
